The National Peace Committee has expressed worry that the sharp regionalisation of the 2023 general elections does not augur well for the peace and unity of Nigeria.
The committee said what was needed at this time was a bipartisan political party that would attract loyalty from all segments of Nigerian society.

Speaking on a television programme yesterday, the deputy director of the Kukah Centre and Secretary of the NPC, The Rev. Fr. Attah Barkindo, said each of the major political parties drew their support from the North, South and East.
He expressed concerns that each political was drawing a “colony of fanatical youths” who may take to violence should their principals lose in the 2023 presidential election.
He said this informed the wisdom of the committee in putting together two peace accords.
Barkindo said the committee was working with political parties by providing political education to women and youth to avoid any form of post-election violence.
