On Friday, May 26, 2017, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCRMI) presented building materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Adamawa.
While making the presentation to the state government in Yola, the Federal Commissioner for Refugees, Hajiya Sadiya Umar, said that the delivery was in consonance with the commission’s mandate to cater for victims of conflicts and disasters. She said it also reflected the organization’s support for the efforts of the Adamawa State Government as well as its full commitment to the Buhari Plan, the roadmap for the recovery and rehabilitation of the North East commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari.
She added that the commission had also embarked on massive empowerment pilot projects in the North East Zone for IDPs and vulnerable persons in camps and host communities. These projects which are aimed at raising incomes and living standards revolve around improving the psycho-social and economic wellbeing of beneficiaries, skill acquisition and supporting livelihoods in agriculture, waste to wealth initiatives and agro-processing and manufacturing. The Refugee Commission czarina reiterated her agency’s determination to create opportunities for those targeted and disclosed that it would open zonal and field offices to drive effective service delivery in the North East. Responding on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Ahmadu Waziri, commended the commission for the gesture and gave an assurance that the materials would be judiciously utilized.
