The Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Senator Basheer Garba Mohammed, has lauded Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State for his efforts in restoring peace after the many crises that rocked the state.
Senator Basheer gave the commendation on Monday in his remarks at the flag- off of the distribution of food and non-food items to Persons of Concern held at the Benue State Emergency Management Agency office in Makurdi.
The commissioner acknowledged that Benue State had its own share of conflicts and natural disasters across the state country, leading to displacement of many citizens. He cited the challenge of herdsmen and farmers clashes, insurgencies as well as flooding among others.
Senator Basheer performed the symbolic presentation of various items, including rice, beans, millet, garri, spaghetti, salt, red oil and tomato paste among other food items.
Household materials such as bathing soap omo, buckets, blankets, slippers and locally fabricated stoves were also distributed. Assorted drugs were also donated to meet the health needs of the IDPs and members of their host communities.
Earlier, the commissioner was received at the Benue Government House by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abo, who described the donation by the Commission as a great relief for the state.
