The Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) has said it would collaborate with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) to build at least 38,700 housing across the country.

The President of REDAN, Aliyu Oroji Wamakko, who said this at a meeting in Abuja said that at least 50 housing units would be built in all the 774 local governments and development centres across the country.

He also said the association will join forces with the Special Control Unit on Money Laundering (SCUML), a unit of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to checkmate money laundering and terrorism financing occasioned in the built industry.

“In actualizing our mandate to provide affordable housing to Nigerians, as well as to generate employment for economic growth, we are going to interface with NULGE, the Governors’ Forum, Development Finance Institutions in Housing, the F55 2020 (CBN) with the aim of constructing at least 50 housing units in all the 774 local governments and development centres nationwide to reduce housing deficit, increase housing stock.

“Accordingly, REDAN will collaborate with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF)to rejig the desire to provide housing for Civil Servants. We shall also partner with the Police authorities -Ministry of Police Affairs- to provide homes to police personnel (in service and post service homes),” Wamakko said.

He urged the Federal Government to fulfill its promise to recapitalise the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) to the tune of N1trn to service both the demand and supply and take housing delivery to the next level of affordability.
