The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Dr Dayo Oladebeye, has advocated that the retirement age of chief lecturers in the polytechnics in Nigeria be extended from 65 years to 70 years.

He said at 65, they are still very strong and have a lot to contribute to the development of education in Nigeria.

The rector made the remarks at the send-off for a staff member, Garba Olorunoje, who retired from the Department of Building Technology in the institution.

“I recommend the same retirement for the chief lecturer in the polytechnics in Nigeria, same as professors, because they still have a lot to contribute to the development of their institution.

“I think what was extended to professors should be extended to the polytechnic too. Anybody who likes and anybody who wants to opt-out can opt-out. Many people retiring at the age of 65 years still have a lot to contribute to the system.”

He described Olorunoje as a very hard-working, very loyal and unassuming immediate past deputy rector administration of the institution.

The National President, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti Alumni Association, Oyedokun Abiodun, explained that Olorunoje was being celebrated for what he stood for; his impeccable pedigree and integrity.
