Reasons you shouldn’t over pamper your child

She told me stories of how she would always make sure they got what they wanted all the time and how she never wanted to see them cry and unfortunately they made her cry several times before she passed away.
It is not wise to excessively give  gifts to children because  they get spoiled. Pampering can also mean fulfilling all the desires of children even if it is not a necessity. Children learn from their parents, they get spoiled when everything comes easy to them without any effort. Parents must not spoil kids by going according to their whims and fancies. They never learn the value or importance of whatever is given to them on a platter of gold.
Unfortunately many parents today still find themselves caught up in the same web, where they feel they have to always be there for their children, protect them irrespective of the situation and giving them whatever they desire. But the truth remains that doing all that might be setting up the child for failure in later life because he will get used to getting everything easily hence wouldn’t know how to struggle and deserve things.
Children that are over pampered by their parents develop a disrespectful attitude towards others. Parents need to understand their wards’ requirement and accordingly provide them things which are necessary. Make them learn to do things by themselves. This will help them to become responsible and they might not develop an attitude that parents will always stand by them.
Kids who are excessively pampered by their parents tend to get very dominating. They become very aggressive and retaliate against anything spoken to them. Parents must limit their material love and try spending quality time with children. As this will distract them from materialistic pleasures and make them civil individuals.
Parents who work excessively and do not have time for their children are often guilty of ‘over pampering’, hoping to compensate for the lack of attention by dancing to the tune of the children at all times.
They need to know that only quality time and discipline can help them raise their children well. So the best way is to spend quality time with them. Take out time to take your kid on an outing, talk about the hardships you have faced to give them a luxurious lifestyle. This will help them to know the realities of the world and make them mature individuals.
An expert on educational psychology and counseling, Mr. Joseph Andrew says it isn’t a problem to show your children love and affection at all times and it only becomes detrimental to the child’s overall behavioural development when you fail to insert discipline in between the love and affection, adding that children are very wise to detect their parents weaknesses for them and are quick to take advantage of the situation.
“Discipline, like love and affection should always be on the menu as far as child upbringing is concerned. The moment the child realizes you love him too much and is ready to do anything for him or her, the child will always take advantage of that situation, so parents be warned,” he said.
