Real Madrid beat Al-Hilal to win first Club World Cup in five years

Real Madrid have won the Club World Cup for a record-extending fifth time after beating Saudi Club Al Hilal 5-3 on Saturday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Morocco.

This is their first world club title since 2018. It also lifted the trophy in 2014, 2016 and 2017.

Vinicius Jnr and Fede Valverde scored two goals each and one more strike from Karim Benzema ensured Real Madrid had the last laugh against the hard fighting Saudi team.

Al-Hilal never led the match but showed it was no fluke that it had upset Brazil’s Flamengo to reach the decider in Morocco’s capital. Luciano Vietto scored twice and Moussa Marega once for the Asian champions.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, said, “Vinicius has been improving since last season just as the team has also grown. We won the Champions League and now the world title, and Vinicius has grown along the way.

“We are thrilled with what he is doing, above all because he keeps getting better. He is much more decisive now and is making the difference in every match.”

With Saturday’s feat, Madrid have won the world club title a record eight times, including three times when the competition was called the Intercontinental Cup.
