A video has surfaced on social media showing the impeached Edo Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, praying for his successor, Omobayo Godwins, to be better and greater than him.
In the viral video posted by an X user with the handle @jostezz_, Shaibu prayed mostly in Pidgin English, affirming that Godwins should be better than him because he (Shaibu) was superior (then).
Recall that Shaibu was impeached yesterday by the Edo State House of Assembly, over allegations of misconduct while in the office.
Shortly after Shaibu’s impeachment, the Edo State Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa swore in the 38-year-old Godwins as the new deputy governor having been appointed by Governor Godwin Obasakei.
In a twist to the whole saga, netizens said the incident might have been caused by the prayers Shaibu prayed for Godwins during an event as revealed in the viral video.
“…From strength to strength and from glory to glory. Me senior am, and he suppose better pass me, so the prayer wey I pray na im go better and prosper pass me,” Shaibu had said in the video.
The interpretation says: “I’m his superior and he should be better than me, so I prayed for him that he would be better and more prosperous than me.”
Reacting to the video, some people said there is power in the tongue and it is not ideal to pray that kind of prayer, as not all prayers should be prayed.
@theonlyratio wrote, “Na so the late Governor of Ondo state Rotimi Akeredolu pray for the current Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa o. We all know what happened; God bless his soul! Make Tinubu pray for me abeg 😂”
@DrTambari reacted, “Prayers work. Today, he has taken over from him as the deputy governor.”
“Power in our tongues!!!” @jopele2171 posted.
@Rendezvuz said, “Na so e Dey be 😂”
“E shock baba now say prayers dun come,” @jostezz_ added.
