Re: Presidency probes privatisation of Peugeot, ANAMCO, others

The exercise referred to by your reporter is a committee

Our attention has been drawn to the above banner headline which was published as a  second lead story in the Business section of your newspaper of Thursday, July 15, 2021 by one Abdullateef Aliyu. The said headline is not only misleading but portrays the bureau as investigating itself/activities.

The exercise referred to by your reporter is a committee set up by the federal government on the recommendation of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) to look into the immediate and remote reasons why the privatised automobile enterprises are not performing optimally in Nigeria.

In addition, the committee is expected to proffer recommendation on how to boost local vehicle production and automobile assembly. The bureau is the secretariat of the committee which is on fact-finding assignment and not a probe.
