At a time like this leaders at all levels are felicitating with Muslims all over the world as Muslims are currently celebrating the Eid el-Kabir and also pass massage on what’s expected of them for development or progress of the nation.
Nation building requires citizens at all levels to play their part. However, the statement made by President Bola Tinubu calling on Nigerians to make sacrifices sounds like he doesn’t know what is the reality on ground as to the level of sacrifices Nigerian citizens are making with the hope of seeing light at the end of the tunnel. The situation is caused by the poor economic policies of his administration.
May be those close to him and his teeming advisers are only telling him what he wants to hear while blocking him from knowing what he doesn’t want to hear, otherwise his call should be directed to leaders, including himself, to make sacrifices for Nigeria to progress.
It’s on record that despite the hardship faced by Nigerians, President Tinubu made a supplementary budget to spend billions of naira on luxury goods and services for himself, family and that of his vice president. Also, it’s no longer hidden that senators and House of Representatives members spend billions of naira to buy SUVs for themselves.
Mr President should be reminded that he give approval to spend N1bn for just a tripartite committee to review civil servants’ salaries; N5bn was approved for a committee that will review taxes.
Therefore, if honest appraisal will be made for Nigeria to succeed/develop what is required more is for leaders at all levels to make sacrifices and put the interest of Nigeria first above any other thing.
The followers are making serious sacrifices for Nigeria to succeed, including going to bed on empty stomach daily, just for Nigeria to be built and become a stronger nation where all citizens will be the beneficiaries and be proud of the as we all await the renewal of our hope.
