In the Daily Trust report above, they translated the new name for Kunchi “Ghari” as “Land” in Hausa. One may not be a good Hausa speaker or writer, but my understanding of the word Ghari is either a grain powder or a settlement.
Even the spelling of the word known to me is “Gari” But I am aware of a state creation movement from Kano State calling for “Ghari State” or “Ghari dam”. Someone should help unravel these before one is tempted to declare “ Hausa dabo ce”.
