Raw materials, poor infrastructure, govt policy affect business in Nigeria – Lifemate

One of the leading furniture manufacturing companies in Nigeria, Lifemate Nigeria Limited has identified increase in the prices of raw materials, poor infrastructure and unfavourable government policies as challenges the Chinese company is experiencing in Nigeria.

In an exclusive chat with Daily Trust at the ongoing 2018 Lagos International Trade Fair in Lagos at the weekend, the company’s key account manager, Caesar Cong said the price for some raw materials such as wood, cotton, nylon and other materials are increasing.

The development, he said, will reduce the profit margin and annual turnover of the company.

According to him, certain government policies in China could be replicated in Nigeria to further improve the ease of doing business in Nigeria.

“We have been in Nigeria since 2006 and we have 16 branches across the country already. But, what we noticed is that, things are still done in the same way.

“In China, there is free tax for a new company. Nigerian government need to develop good policy to help foreign company to develop so they can hire more Nigerians.

“The tax for importation should be reduced to further assist foreign companies. If there are more foreign companies, unemployment in Nigeria will be reduced,” Cong said.

He called on the government to further improve on the economy as well as the infrastructure which he described as poor.

A good road, regular power supply and other infrastructures, he said, will further enhance business in Nigeria.

The Public Relations Officer of the company, Mrs Ejiemhen Orebayo, stated that the firm unveiled and showcased its new products on home and office furniture, outdoor furniture, kitchen cabinet, sanitary wares and its massage chairs.

She said a five percent discount coupon will be given to all visitors of their exhibition space at the fair, which can be used in any of the company’s showrooms across the country till the end of November.
