A twenty-year-old man, Ayo Adenupebi, arrested in Lagos for alleged sexual abuse on a nine-year-old girl has asked the victim for forgiveness.
The young man was arrested on October 1, 2021, by detectives at the Akodo Police Division, Lagos State Police Command.
The suspect who resides in Ise town, Akodo, said it was the joy of the Independence Day celebration that pushed him into sexually assaulting the victim who also resides on the same street with him.
“I want you to forgive me for what I have done to you,” he told the little girl, while being whisked away by detectives.
The victim’s elder sister had reported the incident to the police after she noticed blood stains on her (the victim’s) thigh at around 7pm on Independence Day.
When asked at the station, the victim alleged that the suspect sexually assaulted her and warned her against telling anyone including her parents.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the incident, said it followed a report made at the Akodo Police Division by the victim’s father.
Ajisebutu said upon receipt of the report, detectives arrested the suspect who, during interrogation, confessed to the crime but pleaded for leniency.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that the suspect should be transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution. Meanwhile, the victim has been taken to the hospital for medical treatment,” he said.
