Rape: Court jails man for life, another bags 21 years in Jigawa

A High Court in Jigawa State has on Monday sentenced a 27-year-old man, Suleiman Ahmed, to life imprisonment for raping a minor.

In a separate case, the court, presided by Justice Musa Ubale, sentenced another man, Adamu Ali, to 21 years in prison for raping a 9-year-old schoolgirl.

Ahmed, from Lutai village in Birnin Kudu LGA, was found cionvicted for raping an 11-year-old girl at Babaldu town.

The court was said to have been lured to an uncompleted house by Ahmed where he had carnal knowledge of her.

Two of the girl’s friends testified that they saw when the convict called the girl to the hideout and they followed them only to catch him red handed while committing the offence.

Ahmed however denied the charges.

In proving the case, the prosecution team led by the Jigawa Attorney General Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu called four witnesses before the court.

Justice Ubale ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced the defendant to life imprisonment.

In the case of State vs Adamu Ali, the defendant who resides in Birnin Kudu town was accused to have raped a 9-year-old primary school pupil in the February 2020.

Ali was accused of offering N500 to his victim to purchase biscuit, which the little girl bought and carried home.

Upon interrogation and investigation by her parent and her school management, the girl was discovered to have been raped by the convict.

The prosecution called four witnesses in proving the case.

In delivering his judgment, Justice Ubale agreed with the arguments of the prosecution team led by the state’s Attorney General, and sentenced the convict to 21 years imprisonment.
