Rangers International FC of Enugu have their eyes set on a resounding victory over Katsina United today in order to honour their Technical Adviser Gbenga Ogunbote who was voted the best coach (male) in Nigeria at the NFF awards night held on Monday in Lagos.
The ‘Flying Antelopes’ are guests of the ‘chanji boys’ in a rescheduled week 2 match in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League.
Rangers, who failed to pick one of the quarter-final tickets in the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup are mopping up available points from their outstanding matches to stand a chance of returning to the continent.
In a chat with Daily Trust, Rangers’ mainstay in the midfield, Anthony Shimaga said they are in Katsina for the maximum points.
He said apart from the need for them to climb to the top of their group table, they want to use the victory to celebrate their gaffer for winning the best coach of the year award.
The former FC IfeanyiUbah player said the match is not going to be an easy one but Rangers who are yet to taste defeat since dropping out of the continent will triumph in the end.
“We are in Katsina for all the available points. Victory will be good for our ambition to return to the continent.
“In addition, our coach deserves nothing but victory from us. He has just emerged as the best male coach in Nigeria and we want to give him a befitting present.
“As usual, we are not expecting an easy match. It will be very tough but we are ready for our opponents. We shall fight for the maximum points,” he assured.
Shimaga reiterated that given a level playing field, Rangers won’t have any problem beating their host to cart home the three points.
Rangers will next play Katsina United in the reverse fixture which is a match day 14 encounter scheduled for the ‘Cathedral’, Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, Enugu, on April 7, 2019 with kickoff fixed for 4.00pm.
