Ramadan: NGO promises more training for Islamic aid groups in Plateau

The Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN) has expressed its commitment to providing first aid medical training to Islamic aid groups in Plateau State, to help the poor in the society.

The state chapter chairman of the association, Prof. Ahmad Muhammad Sabo, gave the assurance at a 2-day sensitisation and pre-Ramadan lectures with the theme: “The challenges of COVID-19: The way forward,” organised by the Islamic Aid Group of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Plateau State chapter.

He said it was necessary to train members of such groups as they were the first contact with sick persons ad ran the risk of exposing themselves to danger.

“Even when patients die, they take care of the corpse and possibly convey them for burial.

“First-aid workers hugely play a role here. The first aid worker is also expected to be trained on containment, to prevent them from getting infected from COVID-19 patients,” he said.

A lecturer at the Federal University Kashere, Ustaz Danjuma Usman Gwani, said COVID-19 was wreaking havoc across the world.

He said pandemics were not uncommon calamities or disasters known in the history of Islam and the world over.

“It is a known fact to us, Muslims, that COVID-19, isn’t the first occurrence of a pandemic,” he said.
