Ramadan: JIBWIS assists needy with N30m goods, cash for sallah

The National Chairman of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bidah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, has urged the federal and state governments to empower the orphans as part of measures to tackle insecurity in the country.

He made the call Saturday in Abuja at the closing of the 1443 Tafsir at its National Secretariat, Berger-Utako, Abuja.

The event also witnessed the presentation of cash and relief items to 1000 orphans (500 males and 500 females) from the six area councils of the FCT.

“The governments across the country should come to the aid of the orphans and the needy in the country. This is a divine call. Helping the less privileged to overcome their challenges would be advantageous in addressing insecurity in the country,” Lau said.

He also called for immediate and comprehensive prison decongestion, especially as it involves inmates awaiting trials as part of measures to reduce crime, and prevent unjust punishment of the innocents.

According to him, many of the inmates in the nation’s correctional centres have no business being there.

Also, Chairman of the group’s orphan’s foundation, Alhaji Abdullahi Abdulmalik Diggi, said the 1000 beneficiaries were given cash and items worth N30m.

According to him, each was given a 25kg bag of rice, yards of cloth and N5000 from donations raised by the foundation, beginning from 1st of this year’s Ramadan, to Friday 22 April.

He also said that Sheikh Bala Lau himself donated N3m, apart from his plan to sponsor the marriages of 20 female orphans, while the remaining balance along with other expected contributions, would be used in sponsoring the orphans in skill acquisition and start-up packages.

He also said that 100 orphans would benefit from an education scholarship.
