Ramadan: Gombe to distribute foodstuffs to 120,000 households

The Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has ordered for distribution of thousands of bags and assorted cartons of food items to over 120,000 households in the state.

 A statement issued Saturday by the director-general, press affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, noted that the governor approved the immediate distribution of the food items across the 114 wards in the state as part of Ramadan relief package to the less privileged.

He said the items would be distributed to households in the respective wards, religious groups and associations across the 11 local government areas of the state.

He disclosed that the items to be distributed included 25,000 bags of sugar, 15,000 bags of rice, 15,000 gallons of cooking oil, as well as 15,000 cartons each of spaghetti and tomato paste respectively. 

He said the humanitarian gesture by the governor was aimed at providing succour, especially to the less privileged in the society in the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan. 

“To ensure smooth distribution exercise across the 11 local government areas, Governor Yahaya has approved a template to be implemented by the chairmen of local government councils in their respective areas with members of the state House of Assembly as members of the committee.

“Other members of the committee are the commissioners and chairmen of political parties, while senior special assistants on  community relations will serve as secretaries,” Misilli added.
