Some prominent political and traditional leaders in the country have called on Muslims to use this year’s Ramadan to pray for the restoration of security, peace and unity in the country.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, while congratulating Nigerian Muslims on the beginning of Ramadan, said the period entailed a lot of sacrifices, not only total abstinence from food but other indulgences.

The Speaker, in the statement by his media adviser, Lanre Lasisi, wished Muslims a successful Ramadan fasting and enjoined all Nigerians to unite against insecurity and other challenges in the country.
Also, the Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, in a statement by his chief press secretary, Olayinka Oyebode, urged Muslims to use the Ramadan season to pray for peace and prosperity in Ekiti State, especially the forthcoming governorship election.
He said that through prayer and cooperation of the people, the state would witness a peaceful election and smooth transition of power to the eventual winner.
The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, in his message, urged the Muslim faithful to use the Ramadan fasting to pray for the country.
He urged Muslims to devote themselves in praying to the Almighty Allah to address the problems facing the country.
The emir also urged Muslims to assist the needy, particularly the orphans, widows and the less privileged in society.
