The Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society has called for unity and religious harmony to boost peace, economic stability and national development in the country.
The national Chief Imam, Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, Sheikh Fuad Adeyemi, made the call yesterday in Abuja at a special interfaith Iftar programme, which had Christian clerics and representatives of Hindu community to breaking of fast with their Muslim counterparts to promote peace and unity.
Adeyemi said that the event was organised to promote peace, unity and religious tolerance among all Nigerians.
“When you say peace, it has to be holistic; if one person is not in peace then everybody is not in peace; that is why we are doing this with our Christian brothers to demonstrate that we are one,” he said.
Also speaking, Rev. Fr. Candice Enyiaka, of the International Programme Development Specialist, Global Peace Foundation, said the initiative was capable of addressing religious intolerance in Nigeria.
He urged other faith-based organisations to also emulate that to promote peace, unity and harmony in the country.
