Ahead of the 2021 Ramadan, new rules have been set for pilgrims who wish to observe their lesser Hajj (Umrah) as well as everyone else who will be in the holy city in the month of Ramadan.

A notice released on the official handle of the blog ‘Inside the Haramain’ on Sunday, the 28th of March, 2021, stated that those observing Umrah will not be allowed to touch the holy Ka’ abah.

Muslims will also not be allowed to perform I’tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan.

It is suspected that these rules were set in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 amongst pilgrims.

Muslim faithful, who wish to spend the month of Ramadan in the Holy Mosque in Mecca, must abide by all the new set of restrictions in order to minimize the spread of COVID-19.
