Captain of Porto Golf Club, Lawal Mallam says disruptions due to perennial rains were the reason for postponing the official launching of the three year old facility.
The Munjibir, Kano based club has been commended by many for its location, exotic and attractive greenery despite it being a mini golf club with only a 9 hole course, which means play will have to be carried out twice in order to get the standard 18 hole results.
“We want to avoid disruptions associated with the rainy season hence our decision to postpone the official opening and the tourney but as soon as the rain subsides, we’ll fix a tentative date for the event,” Mallam, one of the few Nigerian golfers to have featured in the prestigious British Open event said.
Mallam, who doubles as organizing chairman of the 2016 Porto tourney which is expected to coincide with the official launching, said over 50 high profile golfers will be invited to the competition when the date is announced.
“It’s one of the most beautiful green courses around and it has other resorts for those interested in other sports like polo and other equestrian events, Porto will definitely be talk of the town in a few years’ time,” he concluded.
