Rainstorm renders over 250 homeless in llorin

Over 250 members of different families in some communities in llorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State have been rendered homeless by rainstorm.

The rainstorm which was accompanied by a heavy downpour that lasted over two hours damaged over 50 residential buildings, two transformers and over 100 electricity poles.

Some of the affected communities included Egbejila, Ajegunle, Odoore, Bayi, Ilu-Oba, Sokoto, and Oko-Ode, all in the llorin West Local Government Area.

Roofing sheets of many buildings were blown off by the wind. Household furniture and electronics were also destroyed.

The affected victims were by yesterday taking refuge in Mosques and in houses of neighbours not affected by the rainstorm.

Some of the victims and residents of the communities who spoke with our correspondent lamented the incident.

The Magaji Egbejila Community, Alhaji Muhammad Jamiu particularly lamented the destruction of electric poles which he said required urgent attention of the appropriate authorities.

The Chairman of the llorin West Local Government area, Alhaji Zulu Oloje pledged to provide immediate succour to the victims.

The technical Manager of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (lBEDC), Baboko branch, llorin, Mr Adeyemi Taiwo said the Company had commenced repair work on the damaged poles.

Effort to speak with the special Adviser to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on emergency and relief, Alhaji Duro Mohammed on the incident proved futile.
