Many residents of Iyara community in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State have been rendered homeless as rainstorm destroyed their houses, with some of them sustaining injuries during the disaster.

Locals said the heavy rainfall started at about 4pm on Friday, destroying some classrooms of the Community High School Iyara.

According to a resident simply identified as Femi, there was no loss of lives in the incident, but some injured victims were currently receiving treatment at the community’s health centre.

President of Iyara Development Association (IDA), Alhaji Aliyu Badaki, expressed shock and sadness over the disaster, describing it as unfortunate.

He said the damage done by the storm was massive and beyond what the community can handle, appealing that NEMA and Kogi SEMA should intervene.
