Two sisters between the ages of nine and 11 have been killed in a rainstorm at Ja’oje village in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The sisters, Hamida and Maryam, died after the room in which they were sleeping in collapsed as a result of a heavy downpour.

Confirming the incident, the Director, Relief and Rehabilitation in the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mustapha Umar, also said 144 animals were killed by the rainstorm.

He added that several houses were destroyed, affecting over 177 households.

He said a combined team of Sokoto Emergency Management Agency, National Emergency Management Agency and International Organization For Migration were in the the village for on the spot assessment.

He added that, there were two other communities in the local government areas also affected by the rainstorm but they were yet to ascertain their losses.
