A heavy rainstorm associated with wind storm has destroyed dozens of houses and properties worth millions of naira in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. The heavy downpour, the first rainfall of this season, commenced some minutes after 3pm Tuesday and lasted for over four hours.
It destroyed many mud houses in the Maiduguri area and some parts of the city centre leaving many residents homeless.

Our correspondent who went round the metropolis observed that the rainstorm had destroyed the roofs of many houses and uprooted trees in many locations within Maiduguri and its environs, a situation that compelled the people to clear debris, dirt and other properties damaged by the storm.
All efforts to get the reaction of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) proved abortive but a staff of the agency who did not want to be named said the officials had commenced an assessment of the damage done by the storm.
