No fewer than 200 houses, classrooms, and a clinic were destroyed in Miango District, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State on Monday evening, following a downpour in the area.
The Publicity Secretary of Miango Youth Development Association, Nuhu Bitrus Nga, said three persons were also injured in the incident, and were receiving treatment in a hospital.
“The heavy rainstorm blew off roofs of about 200 houses, a clinic, classrooms, shops, livestock pens. It uprooted trees, leaving many people stranded while valuables were lost.

“Currently, some affected persons have found refuge in neighbours’ houses. The damage caused by the rainstorm further put the Miango people who have over the years suffered violent attacks and displacement in a more precarious situation,” Nga explained.
The community called on the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the local government council, non-governmental organizations and well-meaning individuals to as come to the aid of the affected persons.
