Nigeria’s female table tennis star, Oyinlomo Barakat Quadri’s has been offered a year-long scholarship by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), following her impressive display at the 2015 ITF/CAT Junior Championship held recently in Rabat, Morocco
The 12-year-old sensation, who is West Africa’s best player in the 12 & under category, was in imperious form as she defeated opponents from Burundi, South Africa and Egypt in her singles matches at the one week event which featured over 60 players from about 30 African countries.
ITF Developmental Project Administrator, Frank Couraud in a letter sent to NTF President Engr. Sani Ndanusa from its London headquarters reads: Following the good results in the last six months, the International Tennis Federation is pleased to offer Barakat Quadre a scholarship to attend the ITF/CAT High Performance Tennis Centre in Morocco for the academic year 2015/2016.
“The Centre is proud to have players who won five titles of African champion in 2015. We believe that Barakat can take advantage of this high performance environment and achieve her maximum potential.
“Oyin has been one of the players whose progress has delighted the NTF. We are monitoring her career and we will continue to give her the support to make her rise to the top. Her talent and potential has never been in doubt and we are very proud of her achievement in the past few years,” Ndanusa said.
