The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) said in Gombe yesterday that it had verified over 990 pensioners of the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) and its mobile subsidiary, MTEL, in a an exercise held in the state capital.
The exercise which lasted four days was for pensioners in the North-east and the second phase of the verification for NITEL/MTEL pensioners.
The directorate said the verification exercise was conducted to enhance prompt payment of monthly pensions of retirees and disengaged staff of the telecommunication company.
According to a statement made available to newsmen after the verification exercise, PTAD said it had obtained the authority to gather relevant information on the nature and status of outstanding pension liabilities of from the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).
