‘PTAD paid pensioners, kins N96bn in 13 months’

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has revealed that it paid N96 billion to federal pensioners and next of kins (NoKs) of deceased retirees in the last 13 months.

Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, the Executive Secretary of PTAD, Dr. Chioma Ejikeme, said the payments were made from July 2019 to August 2020.

He said N77bn was paid as monthly pension to 244,643 pensioners as at July 2020, N19bn to 87,842 pensioners and N670 million to 418 NoKs of deceased pensioners.

The executive secretary explained that the payments also included the balance of 33% arrears for the parastatal pensioners, which had been outstanding since 2010 and was fully paid to the pensioners and NoKs in November/December, 2019.

He said the directorate has been working hard to recover N44bn pension legacy fund and assets for payment of pension liabilities.
