The Chairman, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) in Edo State, Mr Chris Osagiede, has cautioned the youths against smoking shisha, saying it has dangerous health implications.

Speaking with journalists in the state, Osagiede said the warning became necessary due to the way and manner youths, especially ladies, indulge in smoking shisha.

He alleged that in many birthday parties, social gatherings and clubs ladies were always seen smoking shisha.

Osagiede said smoking of shisha is not only drug abuse, but a silent killer, noting “The earlier the government tackles the issue of drug abuse, the better for the country”.

According to him, shisha drinks contain hard drugs, which can lead to addiction

“Yes, they will tell you what they are taking is shisha, but to the unsuspecting ladies, they don’t know they are gradually addicted to hard drugs, and it will get to a time if they don’t take shisha, they will not be normal as addiction has set in,” Osagiede said.

He noted that through sharing of Shisha rope diseases such as hepatitis and other viral diseases could be transmitted.

“It’s a social menace and a burden to some families. Some very rich families are contending with their children constantly on drugs, trying to take them off that addiction,” he said.
