Provide competent leadership or resign, PDP tells Ambode

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of hiding the misdeeds of his predecessor in office, Babatunde Fashola, because they belong to the same All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP also rated Ambode’s performance in his first 100 days in office as dismal.
The party, in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Taofik Gani, alleged that   Ambode was overwhelmed by the “high level of decadence” he inherited from the previous government.
The statement lamented that rather than exposing the misdeeds he inherited, Ambode was putting his party’s interest above the interest of Lagosians who, it said, were at the receiving end of the alleged mismanagement of the state’s resources.
“Ambode should take the bull by the horns and manifest competent leadership, otherwise he should throw in the towel,” it advised.
The PDP said it deliberately delayed its assessment of the governor’s 100 days in order to gauge public opinion, adding: “The examples of lack of cabinet; internally generated revenue and introduction of Treasury Single Account; LASTMA operations; the LASU crisis; delay in local government elections; unclear salaries and wages for civil servants; human rights abuses; etc continue to linger even when they can be resolved within 100 days.”
Responding, The Lagos State branch of All Progressives Congress (APC) said that Lagos was moving under Ambode as it did under Fashola.
In a statement signed by Joe Igbokwe, the publicity secretary, the APC said that Ambode took over the construction of several rural roads, trying to open rural areas, create employment opportunities and reduce cost of doing business in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre while identifying new areas of revenue.
“He is doing these in just 100 days and will permanently shut the PDP as the fruits of his efforts yield in the coming days,” the party added.
