Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU) Ile-Ife, Osun State on Friday blocked the Ife-Ibadan expressway and the Osogbo-Ede Road while protesting over the death of one of them, Omowumi Aisat Adesina.

The deceased who was a 400 Level female student of the Department of Foreign Languages in the University died on Thursday evening.

A source at OAU Health Centre, who preferred anonymity, said the deceased reported back in the morning of Thursday, 30th September 2021 and upon examination was referred to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital where she later died.

The irate students said that their late colleague was not well attended to at the university’s health centre and also blamed the health workers for negligence.

Contacted, the OAU spokesman, Abiodun Olarewaju, said the death of the student was saddening.

He appealed to all students of the students of the University to remain calm.

He said, “The management sympathises with the parents, friends, colleagues and the entire students of the University on this sad loss, and pray for the repose of her soul.

“Kindly refrain from any act that can jeopardise the peace on campus and truncate the ongoing Rain Semester examinations,” Olarewaju said.
