Some Nigerian activists Tuesday at the American Embassy in Abuja protested the killing of George Floyd, an African-American, killed on May 25 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, after he was pinned on the ground by policemen.
The protesters, under the aegis of the Vanguards for the Protection of Rights of Citizens in Nigeria, described Flyod’s killing as a disservice to humanity, especially at this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sharon Cham, national coordinator of the group, delivered the letter of protest to the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard.
He said the group frowned at “the needless brutality with which the police and other security agent tackled a significant number of peaceful protesters who thronged the streets of American cities to protest the spate of extra-judicial murder of blacks by police.”
