Protect Nigeria’s borders, Interior minister charges new Immigration CG

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has charged the newly appointed Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, to take the protection of Nigeria’s borders as a top priority.
He gave the charge at the decoration ceremony of the new Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Abuja on Friday.
“I will judge you by how well you protect my borders,” the Minister said, calling on her to put her experience and capacity to work in building on the foundation laid by her predecessor, Caroline Adepoju.
“The President did not appoint me to give excuses. I was appointed to give solutions and I need you to get the job done,” Tunji-Ojo said, promising to give all the support needed for the Service to perform.
He also called on all top management staff of the NIS to give the new CG the support needed for her to succeed.
Speaking after her decoration, CG Nandap thanked the President for the trust and confidence placed in her to lead the NIS.
“I want to first assure our fellow Nigerians that I am fully prepared and committed to serving our nation with utmost dedication and integrity. I am aware of the socioeconomic challenges and pains facing our beloved country, and I pledge to use the functions of the Nigerian Immigration Service to alleviate these struggles to the best of our ability.
“We will focus on improving the entry and acalimatižation processes for compliant foreigners through various visa and residency programs.
“Furthermore, we are steadfast in our resolve to strengthen policies to prevent irregular migration, safeguard the lives of our citizens and foster positive bilateral relations. Tightening border security will be a pant objective to reduce the porosity of our borders and enhance overall national security,” she said.
Nandap vowed to strive to implement revenue-generation programs to bolster the economy while also continuing to integrate cutting-edge technology to modernize the NIS.
