A renowned Islamic cleric and Chairman of the Kano Council of Ulama, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Chairman of the party in Kano, Musa Shuaibu Ungogo, who confirmed this development to newsmen, said the cleric joined the party with a renowned political analyst, Dr Sa’idu Ahmad Dukawa.

He added that eight other unnamed professors also joined the cleric to become members of the party in a bid to rescue Kano State from poor governance, drug abuse and street begging among other challenges.
According to the chairman, the national secretariat of the party will soon organise a grand reception to welcome the new members.
Daily Trust on Saturday recalls that Khalil, a former special assistant to the governor of Kano and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had last month announced his decision to leave the party.
He said he dumped the APC because of the crisis rocking the party in Kano.
There has been a feud between the cleric and Kano State Government since he left his position as SA to the governor, a move that led to an attempt to remove the cleric from his position as the chairman of the council of Ulama, although the state government denied the allegations.
