Professors meet to upgrade courses at Arabic Village, Ngala

A team of professors from different universities on Wednesday met in Maiduguri to review and upgrade courses offered at the Nigeria Arabic Village, Ngala in Borno State.

The village had relocated to Maiduguri as a result of insurgency, which ravaged most parts of the state including Ngala.

The professors who are members of the National Committee of Experts and Stakeholders on the Repositioning and Revitalising of the village were selected to represent the six geo-political zones.

They are to help in rebuilding the image and the programmes offered by the village and introduce new ways and techniques of teaching Arabic.

“We are going to revive the acculturation and the language immersion courses for students from various universities.

“The committee will ascertain whether or not the courses are in line with the requirement of the National Universities Commission,” the director and chief executive officer of the village, Professor Ibrahim Muhammad, said during the meeting of the committee.

He said students from the University of Maiduguri were participating in the immersion courses and would be joined later by others from Yobe and Jigawa states as well as Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

The chairman of the committee and lecturer with BUK, Professor Attahir Mohammed Dawud, said the course outlines of the village would be harmonised with those of the universities.
