The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has mourned the passing of Professor Umaru Shehu who it described as an elder statesman, dedicated public servant, nationalist, community leader, consummate physician and erudite scholar.
The ACF in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Professor Tukur Muhammad, Friday said “Professor Umaru will be remembered for his signature humility, simplicity and level comportment, tireless professional and other community service and dedication to duty right through to his old age.”
The ACF condoled with Shehu’s family, friends, professional colleagues, the federal and Borno State governments; ABU, the numerous national and international tertiary institutions and organisations that he had served at one time or another, as well as the entire people of the nation and northern Nigeria in particular.
The statement said until his demise, he was an Emeritus Professor at the University of Maiduguri and highly respected member of the Borno Elders Committee.

“ACF recalls that late Professor Shehu was one of the earliest northern Nigerians to qualify as medical doctors. He pursued advanced studies and started medical practice in the United Kingdom but elected to return home, served and rose through the ranks of his professional career in the service of the Government of the Northern Region and later that of the Northeastern State Government.
“May Almighty God in His infinite grace and mercy grant Professor Umaru Shehu forgiveness and eternal rest in peace,” the statement said.
