Prof Muhammad resumes as MD/CEO of Galaxy Backbone

Professor Muhammad Bello Abubakar has assumed duty as the third Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone Limited.

President Muhammadu Buhari had in December appointed Professor Muhammad, as the new chief executive of Galaxy Backbone (GBB), an agency of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.

He replaced Architect Yusuf Kazaure who had been at the helm of affairs at Galaxy Backbone for over five years.

Abubakar is a Professor of Petroleum Geosciences, and an oil and gas exploration research consultant to the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Until his appointment, he was the Director, National Centre for Petroleum Research and Development of the Energy Commission of Nigeria.

Born in Gombe on October 3, 1970, he attended Jankai Primary School, Gombe in 1977 and proceeded to Pilot Junior Secondary School, Gombe in1983 and Government Science Secondary School, Gombe in 1988.

He proceeded to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, (ATBU) Bauchi where he obtained a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Applied Geology in 1995 and M.Sc. and PhD in Sedimentology/Petroleum Geology at ATBU, in 2001 and 2006 respectively.

He joined ATBU in 1997 as graduate assistant in the department of Geology and rose to the rank of Professor of Petroleum Geology in 2014. He was at various times an External Examiner and Assessor to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Bayero University, Kano and Akwa Ibom State University.

Prof. Muhammad is a member and Chair of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Geology Departments Accreditation Panel to various universities in Nigeria.
