Professor Ibrahim Umar Abubakar has been appointed the director of the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
According to a letter signed by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ibrahim Garba, the appointment which is for the initial period of two years is renewable for another period of two years subject to satisfactory and unprecedented performance.
The letter partly read that “Your appointment which takes effect from 17th, August, is in recognition of your administrative and academic leadership qualities”.
Professor Abubakar who hails from Taraba State was born in 1962 in Jibu town where he attended his primary school from 1969 to 1975 from where he proceeded to government secondary school Ibi where he completed in 1981.
He proceeded to the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1982 where he obtained his B.Sc degree in Agriculture in 1985, his M.Sc and Ph.D degrees in Agronomy in 1991 and 1999 respectively.
Professor Abubakar joined the services of the Ahmadu Bello University in 1988 as Assistant Lecturer in the Agronomy Department where he rose to the position of Head of Department of Agronomy, Deputy Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Deputy Director, Ag. Director of the Institute.
Professor Abubakar who is presently a member of the board of the governing council of Ahmadu Bello University is married and blessed with children.
