Pro-Wike Commissioner rejects redeployment, quits Fubara’s cabinet

The redeployed Rivers State Commissioner for Justice and the Attorney General of the State, Professor Zacchacus Adangor has rejected his redeployment to the Ministry of Special Duties by resigning from the administration of Governor Similanayi Fubara.

Daily Trust had reported how Fubara moved Adangor, a loyalist of Nyesom Wike, Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), alongside Isaac Kamalu, also a loyalist of Wike.

Kamalu, who was Finance Commissioner, was moved to the Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment.

The duo were asked to immediately hand over to the Permanent Secretaries in their ministries.

In a letter of resignation dated 24th April, 2024, and addressed to the Secretary to Rivers State government, Dr Tammy Danagogo, Professor Zacchacus Adangor said he was no longer willing to continue to serve in the administration of Fubara.

He accused the governor of willfully interfering with his duties as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice by directing him not to defend, oppose or appear in suits instituted against the Attorney-General and government of Rivers State by persons he said were admittedly hired and sponsored by the government of Rivers State.

“I wish to state for the record that I am no longer willing to serve in Sir Similanayi Fubara administration in any capacity whatsoever. It’s important to mention that the governor of Rivers State had in the past couple of weeks wilfully interfered with the performance of my duties as the Attorney-General of the State and Commissioner for Justice by directing me not to defend, oppose or appear in suits instituted against the Honourable Attorney General and the government of Rivers State by persons admittedly hired and sponsored by the government of Rivers State.”

He said having served as a cabinet member of Rivers government in the past five years, he had no option than to resign and save his reputation.

Adangor and Kamalu were among Wike’s loyalists who resigned in the heat of the rift between the Minister and Fubara.

However, following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, they were reabsorbed into Fubara’s government.

Reabsorbing them into his administration was one of the points in the terms of the peace accord which was perceived as a political situation to the crisis.

But few months down the line, the accord collapsed as both camps renewed hostilities.
