Private sector synergy critical to extractive sector development – NEITI

Amidst the current economic downturn in the country, the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) said synergy between private sector and the civil society is critical in developing the to drive extractive sector growth and development.

The Executive Secretary of NEITI, Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji made the call at the first dialogue meeting with civil society organisation, and OrderPaper, which was held recently in Abuja with the theme: “Nigeria’s Fiscal Policy and the Private Sector.”

Deputy Director/Head Communications & Stakeholders Management at NEITI, said the dialogue serves as a “Platform to advocate for better fiscal policies that not only stabilises our economy, but also creates an enabling environment for private sector led economic transformation.”

She noted that NEITI would support the synergy by providing expertise, transparency and accountability in the extractive industry which can spiral into substantial progress in shaping a more predictable and prosperous economic future.

Also speaking, the Executive Director, OrderPaper, Mr. Oke Epia, highlighted that the collaboration between the civil society and private sector stated since 2016 when Nigeria signed up to the OGP, adding that “There is a need to deepen the existing collaboration and “build a collective front towards public finance reforms.”
