Private school proprietors re-elect Otubela, others call for calm over election outcomes

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) has returned Chief Yomi Otubela as its National President.

Also returned at the national elections held in Abuja at the weekend were Deputy National President, Hajiya Amina Makintani, returned with 152 votes; National Secretary, Comrade Augustine Ajibade, (153 votes); National Treasurer, Barr. Nonye Enemuo (154 votes).

Others are National Financial Secretary, Andrew Agi, returned with 152 votes; National Assistant Financial Secretary – Blessed Ogbuehi, returned with 152 votes; National Publicity Secretary, Rev. (Hon.) Gabriel Igbenijesu, returned with 154 votes and National Welfare Officer 2, Alhaji Sani Lawan who was returned with 153 votes.

It would be recalled that before the election, the National Congress, the association’s highest decision-making organ had convened in October at Cosmopolitan University in Abuja with 236 delegates from across the federation, including the BOT Chairman and members where the 2017 NAPPS Constitution were amended.

The National President in a statement at the weekend while commending members for counting them worthy however appealed for calm.

He said, “We will employ credible means to resolve these issues, urging everyone to refrain from making inflammatory comments.

“We reaffirm our commitment to upholding the values of NAPPS membership and addressing key issues in accordance with the constitution.

“Under our leadership, the National Executive Council remains steadfast in adhering to constitutional requirements in addressing concerns. We believe change is crucial for progress, and while resistance is natural, continuity without adaptation impedes growth. We must approach matters with circumspection, recognizing the necessity of change for collective advancement.

“While respecting the concerns raised, we disapprove of any actions deviating from our constitution, causing confusion within the association. The National Electoral Commission conducted elections as scheduled and in strict accordance with the NAPPS constitution.

“We were re-elected based on the ratified NAPPS Constitution 2023 and the decision of the NAPPS National Congress held in October 2023.

It should be noted that the resolutions reached during the NAPPS Delegate Congress at Cosmopolitan University Abuja on October 23, 2023, underscore the validity of our actions.
