Prison warders shot dead in Imo

Two officers were of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) were, on Wednesday, killed by unidentified gunmen in Okigwe town in Imo state.

The officers were attached to Operation Search and Flush, a joint security task force established by the Imo state government.

It was gathered that the attack happened at the Umulolo section of the town in the early hours of Wednesday

A security source told our correspondent that the Correctional officers were ambushed by their attackers.

Their attackers were said to have thrown dynamites into their vehicles. Two officers were killed on the spot while others were rushed to the hospital.

It wax gathered that while one Hilux van was destroyed by the dynamite, the other was not affected.

The unaffected van was said to have been returned to base at the command’s headquarters in Owerri.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the command, Goodluck Uboegbulem, said the centre is yet to get full report of the incident.
