Prison official kills trader over cigarette in Kano

A prison warden at the Goron Dutse Correctional Centre has shot to death a trader for refusing to give him a stick of cigarette.

According to witnesses, there was a misunderstanding between the warder and the trader when the trader refused to sell cigarette to the officer.

A witness said, “We can’t really say, but it seems like the officer was owing the trader and this time around he refused to sell to him which triggered anger in him and he shot him.”

It was gathered that the bullet that was fired at the trader went through his stomach and hit another person on the leg.

The victims were rushed to the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital were the trader was confirmed dead.

Reacting to the development, the police spokesman in the state, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident, and that the police were still trying to ascertain the identity of the slain trader.

When contacted, the spokesman of the correctional centre, Musbahu K/Nasarawa, said he was going to get back to our reporter.
