Prison escapee sprays officials with faeces to avoid re-arrest in Edo

An inmate, who escaped from a Correctional Center in Edo State, Chinedu Ogu, was on Friday apprehended by officials of the Public Works Volunteers (PUWOV) in collaboration with other security agencies in the State.
Daily Trust gathered that, in an attempt to resist re-arrest, Ogu went naked, excreted and sprayed the PUWOV officials at the scene.
Ogu, who was standing trial for murder charges, was among the 1,993 inmates who escaped from two correctional centres in the state during the #EndSARS protest on October 19, 2020.
It was gathered that the suspect was arrested after contravening traffic rules as a commercial motorcycle operator on the outskirts of Benin.
Confirming the arrest, the PUWOV coordinator, Mukhtar Yusuf-Osagie, said Ogu was accosted by PUWOV as a commercial cyclist who contravened the law but turned out to be a wanted inmate, who escaped from a correctional centre in the state.
Yusuf-Osagie said: “In a bid to resist arrest and incite passersby against the officials, he went nude at the scene of offence, passed out faeces and used the faeces to bathe the PUWOV officials at the scene.
“Luckily, PUWOV officials still apprehended him and in the process, it was discovered that he is a fugitive.
“The official later handed him over to Oba Market Police Division where further investigations were carried out in conjunction with the Nigeria Correctional Service which revealed his name to be one Chinedu Ogu, a fugitive, charged for murder case but escaped during the #EndSARS protests in October 19, 2020.”
He added that the suspect has been returned to the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sapele Road.
