Pupils of Asoro Primary School, were on Monday morning stranded as flood took over their school premises.
The school located on Sakponba Road, in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State was flooded following midnight downpour.
The development made it difficult for pupils to access the school premises.
The older ones were seen carrying the younger ones on their backs across the flooded school’s compound to their various classrooms.
One of the parents, Osarodion Ezekiel, who brought his kids to school said the problem of flooding in the school has been a recurring thing for a long time.
“Whenever it rains, the pupils go through the same experience as the area is always flooded,” he said.
He called on the government to do something about this school so that the children will be at peace whenever it rains.
He lamented that the authorities are unconcern about the problem “because their children don’t attend government schools”.
Another parent, who simply gave her name as Aigbe, said she knew that there will be problem in the school this morning due to the heavy rain.
“My daughter is in Primary 4, when the rain started this morning, I knew there is going to be trouble for the children in the school. So, I decided to bring my daughter to the school myself.”
She also called on the state government to come to the aid of the pupils.
The Executive Chairman, Edo State Universal Basic Education Board, (SUBEB), Dr Joan Osa Oviawe, could not be reached as phone calls and text messages put across to her were not answered but a source with the board said work has commenced to remedy the situation.
