The prices of paddy rice and maize have gone up again in Taraba State. Findings revealed that a 100kg bag of paddy rice is now N24,000 as against N22,000 it was sold last week.
Similarly, the price of maize has gone up from N22,000 to N24,000. It was learnt that high demand of paddy rice and maize was responsible of the increase in the prices of the two commodities.
Merchants from some states and millers are now making bulk purchase of paddy rice and maize.
It was also learnt that merchants are following farmers to their dry season farms to buy newly harvested paddy rice.

The price of paddy rice in the farms is N22,000 and in the markets N24,000.
A trader, Sani Rabiu, told our reporter that grain merchants are making money by buying harvested paddy rice in the farm.
He said for each bag of paddy rice, traders are making N1500 and some traders are buying up to 100 bags in a day and millers are waiting in the markets to buy paddy rice brought from the farms.
Sani stated that the prices of maize and paddy rice will continue to go up because of the increasing demand of the commodities in the country.
