The Emma Press is seeking poems on illness for publication in its anthology launching on April 2019.

Interested poets are expected to submit a maximum of three poems, each no longer than 65 lines.

The anthology will be edited by Amy Mackelden and Dylan Jaggard. Mackelden is a poet and writer who co-founded the poetry magazine Butcher’s Dog and is the Weekend Editor at HarpersBAZAAR.com. Jaggard has been published by Oxford University Press and Camden Press, and his prose poetry has been published by National Flash Fiction Day.

The editors seek poems that “express the experience of illness right across the spectrum, and are keen to uncover invisible symptoms, as well as unravel the stigma of mental illness.” Poems are expected to touch on symptoms, life-altering conditions (visible or invisible, chronic or curable), responses, among others.

The Emma Press accepts previously published poems as long as the author holds the rights and can license them for republication without any additional payments or paperwork. Also, it accepts translations. Multiple proposals, one per author, can be submitted.

However, an interested poet must be a member of The Emma Press Club, meaning, one must have bought a book on the website or already have been accepted into the club.

The press will offer published poets two complimentary copies of the book and a discount on future purchases of the book. Pamphlet authors will get royalties and complimentary copies too.

Founded in 2012 by Emma Wright, The Emma Press is an independent publisher dedicated to producing beautiful, thought-provoking books. It has been shortlisted twice and won the 2016 Michael Marks Award for Poetry Pamphlet Publishers.

Deadline for submissions is August 31, 2018.
