Presidential Task Force will rescue Super Eagles, Falcons – Kofar-Soro

A former Director of Sports in Katsina State, Alhaji Aliyu Kofar-Soro, has called on the Federal Government to consider setting up a Presidential Task Force to oversee the national football teams preparation and participation at international tournaments.

The sports administrator who spoke to Daily Trust yesterday was reacting to the recent disappointing performance of the Super Falcons at the ongoing Paris Olympics Games.

Having lost three group matches to Brazil, Spain and Japan, the nine-time African champions crashed out of the world’s biggest games without securing a point.

Kofar-Soro, therefore, said to avoid such embarrassment in the future, the Federal Government should put together a Task Force composed of credible and knowledgeable sports administrators to help the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) with ideas that will enable the national teams to do well on the world stage.

“The recent showing by the Super Falcons is anything but satisfactory. I see it as a disaster that must be stopped from happening again.

“Apart from the Super Falcons, the Super Eagles are on the verge of missing out of the World Cup again. This is not good for the image of Nigeria as a football powerhouse in the world.

“I, therefore, call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to put in place a Presidential Task Force for the national teams. This can go beyond football to other national teams that have qualified to represent the country at international championships.

“Past administrations did the same and Nigeria was saved the embarrassment we are facing presently. The late President Umaru Yar’Adua in 2009 set up the Presidential Task Force that ensured the Super Eagles qualified for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

“We can’t fold our hands and watch this continuous decline in our sports. There are Nigerians who are well versed in sports administration who can serve this country in such capacity. We can’t allow a few individuals to continue to toy with the passion of millions of Nigerians,” said Kofar-Soro.
